GCORR Social Media Community Rules of Respect & Engagement 

The General Commission on Religion and Race (GCORR) welcomes conversation, questions, reflection, and respectful disagreement on our social media channels. 

Our work addresses race, culture, identity, equity, inclusion, justice, and the life of the Church. We know these conversations can bring different perspectives and deeply held beliefs. We believe meaningful dialogue does not require agreement—but it does require respect for the dignity and humanity of others. 

As a community committed to inclusion, equity, and justice, we ask everyone engaging on GCORR’s social media channels to follow these guidelines: 

Engage with respect. 

Disagreement, questions, and critique are welcome. Personal attacks, insults, name-calling, bullying, harassment, intimidation, or abusive language are not. 

Honor the dignity of every person. 

Racist, sexist, xenophobic, homophobic, transphobic, ableist, or otherwise hateful or dehumanizing comments will not be tolerated. This includes attacks or degrading statements based on race, ethnicity, nationality, culture, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, age, or other aspects of identity. 

Challenge ideas without attacking people. 

GCORR's social media channels are spaces for learning and dialogue. You may disagree with GCORR, The United Methodist Church, a resource we share, or another person's perspective. Critique the idea or position rather than attacking the person or community expressing it. 

Do not use Scripture or theology to demean others. 

Faith and theology are important parts of our conversations. Biblical and theological perspectives are welcome, including differing interpretations. However, comments that use Scripture, theology, or religious belief to insult, threaten, dehumanize, or deny the dignity of another person or group may be removed. 

Stay relevant to the conversation. 

Comments should relate to the topic of the post. Repeated attempts to derail conversations, provoke other commenters, or redirect discussions toward unrelated grievances may be removed. 

Share responsibly. 

Comments containing deliberately false or misleading information, impersonation, malicious claims, or manipulated content may be removed. 

No threats or calls for harm. 

Threats, encouragement of violence, celebration of harm, or language that suggests harm toward an individual or community will be removed and may be reported to the appropriate social media platform or authorities when necessary. 

No spam or disruptive behavior. 

Spam, repetitive comments, unsolicited advertising, excessive posting, bot activity, and deliberate trolling or disruption may be removed. 

How We Moderate 

GCORR reserves the right to hide or remove comments and other content that violate these community guidelines. 

Depending on the nature and severity of the behavior, GCORR may also restrict, block, or report accounts without prior warning. Repeated violations may result in an account being permanently blocked from GCORR's social media channels. 

We will not remove comments simply because someone disagrees with GCORR or offers respectful criticism. Our goal is not to eliminate disagreement. Our goal is to maintain online spaces where disagreement can happen without harassment, hate, dehumanization, or harm. 

GCORR's social media channels are an extension of our ministry. We seek to cultivate spaces that reflect our commitment to the dignity of every person and our shared work toward a Church and world rooted in inclusion, equity, and justice.
