Resources for Hispanic/Latino(a) Concerns

Overview

Hispanic/Latino(a)s have been part of our cultural, political, and religious reality for generations. However, during the last 30 years this population has seen a dramatic rise in its growth. The estimated Hispanic/Latino(a) population in the United States according to the 2006 U.S. Census Bureau was 44.3 million. The recorders of the 2010 Census expect that this will reach nearly 48 million in 2010 (this number does not include the 4 million residents of Puerto Rico). This makes the U.S. Hispanic/Latino(a) population the nation’s largest ethnic minority.  15.5% of the U.S. population in 2010 will trace their roots to some part of Latin America, South America, and the Caribbean.

GCORR maintains a close relationship with the national Hispanic/Latino(a) caucus, MARCHA (Methodist Associated for the Hispanic American Cause), as well as conference and jurisdictional caucuses. It also serves as a resource to the National Plan for Hispanic/Latino(a) Ministry, while the General Commission cooperates by monitoring the church's response to the Hispanic/Latino(a) ministry plan.
