Ms. Jeneane Denise Jones
Jeneane Jones is Team Leader, Communications and Media Relations for the General Commission on Religion and Race. She joined our staff in 2008. Jeneane is an Emmy award winning journalist and communications specialist who has used her love of media to help The United Methodist Church share its faith story with the world for nearly two decades. She was formerly Director of Communications for the California-Nevada Annual Conference, where she resourced nearly 400 local churches, plus districts and the global church, on issues related to media use and public relations. She was responsible for producing monthly print and E-news periodicals, the conference’s website, video resources illustrating the vision of the conference and media training workshops in districts and local churches. Prior to joining the California-Nevada Annual Conference, Ms. Jones was Director of Television Programming for the national UM agency United Methodist Communications. While there, she produced network television documentaries and was managing editor of the groundbreaking, nationally broadcast television news show News Odyssey. The hour- long program, produced from Nashville by United Methodist Communications, interpreted the week's news from a religious perspective, the first program of its kind in the country. Jones also used her skills to direct the Electronic Media Team of the General Board of Global Ministries, the mission arm of the nine-million member United Methodist Church. During her 11-year tenure there as Electronic Media Director, Jones was responsible for creating award winning educational, informational, and documentary programs for the denomination. She also led a team to develop one of the first religious radio stations to air in Moscow, following the fall of Communism in Russia. Jones has been a News Producer for top-rated television news operations in Atlanta, Ga., and San Francisco, Calif. Her work has twice been honored with Emmy Awards. She has also been a recipient of the Medill School of Journalism Fellowship from Northwestern University for the Study of Religion in Media. A native of Oakland, Calif., Jones is a member of Downs UMC in Oakland, where the Rev. Lorraine McNeal is pastor. |
